HISTORY OF YES! REFLECTIONS OF MOLLY BLOOM

After reading Ulysses as a young girl, Aedín Moloney spent close to 30 years developing and shaping her interpretation of James Joyce’s Penelope chapter. In 2003, renowned author and fellow Joyce enthusiast, Colum McCann, invited her to perform passages from the soliloquy at his annual Bloomsday celebration. With McCann’s encouragement, Moloney began work on adapting the monologue for the stage.  She partnered with her father, Ireland's beloved musician and composer, Paddy Moloney (founder and leader of The Chieftains) to record “Reflections of Molly Bloom” in 2017, an audio recording of the unabridged text, accompanied by especially arranged and recorded music by Mr. Moloney.  In 2019, McCann partnered with Moloney to put the finishing touches to the theatrical script, Yes! Reflections of Molly Bloom. The play had its world premiere in New York by The Irish Repertory Theatre in the summer of 2019, directed by Kira Simring. A second production, directed and choreographed by Moloney was produced by The Irish Rep Online, as a Performance on Screen. In 2022 a third production was presented by The Irish Rep and this time directed by Fallen Angels resident director, John Keating.

Moloney has also toured with her performance throughout Europe, including two sold out shows at The Centre Culturel Irlandais in 2022.

We are delighted to be touring this extraordinary performance in a new staging especially for IRELAND 2023.
